To facilitate the implementation of the SDG6 programme the DWS SDG6 Working Group has been established within the Branch Planning & Information. The working group is an overarching forum that provides strategic direction to various task teams of the different SDG6 sub-goals. Each task team has therefore developed their own ToR including an action plan on how data specific to its target is going to be collected, processed, analysed, reported, etc. It is also the responsibilities of task teams to respond to the Global Indicators provided by the United Nations within each of the Sub-goals in addition to developing their own indicators where applicable. Each Task Team must also develop monitoring programmes to scrutinize the achievement of targets of their respective Sub-goals and indicators.

The following structure has been adopted within DWS:

The DWS SDG Working Group coordinates the eight Task Teams established to address the eight Targets that exist within SDG 6, as well as the two additional cross cutting task teams– one for sector support and coordination and the second being a task team initiated from the Water and Sanitation Sector Leadership Group (WSSLG), to support the eight focused Task Teams in communicating their mandates and mobilising outputs to the sector. The ten operational Task Teams meet regularly to plan, discuss and implement within their respective niche areas.
